Upcoming Events at Goose Pond FWA
June 21st @ 9P-12A – Frog Gig Event
Join us at Goose Pond for our annual night of frog gigging!
Participants will meet at the Goose Pond FWA Visitors Center for a safety briefing and then carpool to the wetland for guided frog gigging! A limited number of frog gigs will be provided.
Participants over 18 must have a valid hunting or fishing license.
After we’re done gigging frogs, we will walk through the cleaning and preparation process. We’ll send you on your way with recipes and hopefully some frog legs to try them out on. It’s always a great night!
You must register to attend this free event. Info at 812-512-9185.
DNR values inclusion and access for all participants and will provide reasonable accommodations for this event. Please contact Ethan Plumier at eplumier@dnr.IN.gov or 812-512-9159 to make an accommodation request.
July 24th @ 10-11AM: Field Skills – GPFWA Visitor Center
Attendees will participate in a discussion about where cranes live, how they use their habitat, and how that leads to the research and monitoring questions crane biologists ask. Following the discussion, attendees will learn about monitoring techniques, band their own paper crane, use real tracking technology used by crane biologists to find hidden crane tracking devices.
July 26th @ 10-11AM: Name that Adaptation + Dance Like a Crane – GPFWA Visitor
Center
Attendees will learn to define an adaptation, describe several crane adaptations, and explain how these adaptations help cranes survive in wetlands. Attendees will then learn how these adaptations allow cranes to communicate and learn several crane dance moves.
